2023 Blue Pyrenees Shiraz – Modern cool-climate Shiraz from Victoria with fruit, spice, and finesse

The Blue Pyrenees Shiraz 2023 comes from the cool highlands of the Pyrenees in Western Victoria – one of the most exciting regions for elegant Australian red wines. Selected plots with particularly low yields were vinified for this wine. It was aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks and a selection of French and American barriques. The result is a modern Shiraz with clear fruit, soft tannins, and finely balanced spice – a prime example of the new generation of Australian red wines.

What makes the Blue Pyrenees Shiraz 2023 so special?

The wine comes from several small, low-yield plots, which were vinified separately and then blended to create a complex cuvée. Only 12 months of aging in stainless steel tanks and wood preserve the freshness of the fruit while still imparting structure. The Shiraz represents the modern, elegant style of Australian cool-climate wines—lively, easy to drink, but with depth and aging potential.

And how does the Blue Pyrenees Shiraz 2023 taste?

In the glass, the wine is deep purple with a black core. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe blackberries, blood orange and violets – accompanied by black olives and freshly ground pepper. Juicy, round and velvety on the palate with notes of dark fruit, black pepper, licorice and a hint of toasted wood. The tannins are supple and well integrated, the finish is long and spicy. A Shiraz with substance and accessibility at the same time.
