Many of the best wines from Australia have their origins in the Barossa Valley. No other wine region down under is so representative of the history of the development of Australian wines. This region is home to sixth-generation winegrowing families who tend Australia’s largest collection of old vines, with blocks dating back to the 1840s.
In recent years, traditional Barossa varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro have been joined by a new wave of Mediterranean varieties suited to the region’s soils and climate. The Barossa Valley has also been invigorated by a new generation of winemakers who have challenged the status quo while still maintaining an inherent love and respect for Barossa traditions and culture.
