Little Balcony Chardonnay – animating Chardonnay from Riverland

The ‘Little Balcony’ Chardonnay from Lindsay Wine Estate is a light-footed white wine from the Lindsay Collection ‘TLC’. Like all the wines in this limited edition series, it is adorned with a label depicting a work by Australian artist Sir Lionel Lindsay. The graphic ‘Little Balcony’ was created in 1925 and shows a lady leaning over her ‘little balcony’ in the famous Rocks neighbourhood of Sydney and talking to her husband while he goes to work. The grapes for this Chardonnay come from Riverland, South Australia. Most of the vines were planted ungrafted between 1990 and 2005. The Riverland has long warm sunny days and cool nights. The climate there is reminiscent of southern Italy. The long hours of sunshine ensure that the fruit ripens fully. The cool nights preserve the fine flavours and natural acidity. The 2021 vintage was harvested at night from the end of January to mid-April. Fortunately, the dry environment meant that rainfall was rare during the harvest. The result was healthy grapes of the best quality. As a result, this Australian white wine displays a balanced freshness, lively fruit characteristics and a unique expression of the Riverland region’s terroir.

And this is how the Little Balcony Chardonnay from Lindsay Wine Estate tastes

The 2021 ‘Little Balcony’ Chardonnay from Lindsay Wine Estate, Riverland, South Australia enchants with a fine aroma of ripe tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango, complemented by subtle notes of citrus fruits and a hint of vanilla. It is balanced on the palate, with a medium body and refreshing, well-integrated acidity. Flavours of juicy stone fruit, such as peach and nectarine, blend harmoniously with creamy, buttery notes of caramel. An Australian white wine full of character overall, with a silky texture and a long-lasting finish, with a savoury citrus fruit aftertaste.

2021 Lindsay TLC “Little Balcony” Chardonnay

And the Lindsay “Little Balcony” Chardonnay goes well with it.

The Lindsay “Little Balcony” Chardonnay from Lindsay Wine Estate is an extremely versatile white wine that goes well with a variety of dishes. Try it with roast chicken. The Chardonnay complements the richness of roast chicken, whether it’s a simple roast chicken or a dish with creamy sauces. The crisp acidity and buttery notes of the “Little Balcony” Chardonnay also make it an excellent choice for grilled fish or shellfish such as lobster, prawns or scallops. The creamy texture and flavours of this fine Australian wine also harmonise with creamy pasta dishes such as fettuccine Alfredo or pasta with a rich cheese sauce. The subtle buttery characteristics of the “Little Balcony” Chardonnay also go well with roasted vegetables such as butternut squash, mushrooms or caramelised onions. This Australian white wine also cuts a fine figure with soft cheeses. The acidity of this Chardonnay balances the richness of soft cheeses such as Brie, Camembert or goat cheese. Lightly spiced poultry or pork dishes, no problem. Again, it’s its fruitiness and subtle caramel notes that go well with mildly spiced dishes like roast turkey or pork tenderloin. In addition, try it with creamy soups. The weight and flavours of Chardonnay perfectly complement creamy soups like cream of corn soup, pumpkin soup or potato and leek soup. We also love it with quiches or savoury tartes with ingredients like cheese, mushrooms, spinach or asparagus.
