Wines from Niagara’s top vineyard St. David’s Bench
Queenston Mile Vineyard is Niagara-on-the-Lake’s newest winery. This modern winery offers breathtaking views of the Niagara Escarpment, a landscape-defining layer of hard dolomite rock. In addition to producing world-class wines and sparkling wines, the winery also serves as an excellent event venue, with farm-to-table cuisine and rustic charm.
The winery, which covers around 50 hectares, is managed by Rob Power. He and his team have access to the best grape material for wine production.
The St. David’s Bench site is a jewel among Niagara’s vineyards. It was formed when glaciers carved out the Niagara Escarpment. The Bench tends to be slightly warmer than other sites in the late season when the grapes are ripening. In combination with an early spring warming, this leads to a unique, extended growing season and therefore ideal conditions for the production of top wines.
Excellent Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and sparkling wines are produced from these two grape varieties on a small scale. Winemaker Rob Power has fulfilled a dream here and, as he says, created a small “Pinot playground”.
