Maxwell Eden Valley Riesling – A classic from Australia’s Riesling stronghold

The Eden Valley Riesling from Maxwell Wines comes from a neighbouring region of McLaren Vale. Here in the Eden Valley there are several suitable vineyard sites for Riesling. The grape material comes from a vineyard in the south-western corner of the region known as High Eden. The vine rows face north and are around 500 metres above sea level. In this location, summers tend to be cool, which promotes slow ripening and which helps to preserve the natural acidity in the grapes.

The 2022 vintage was characterised by a long cool ripening period without extreme summer heat spikes. The wines of this vintage thus have great elegance, excellent aromatics and wonderful ageing potential.

And this is how the Eden Valley Riesling from Maxwell Wines tastes

The Eden Valley Riesling from Maxwell Wines beguiles with a delicate aroma of honeysuckle, Granny Smith apples and citrus peel, accompanied by subtle mineral notes. On the palate, it is very juicy, with a fine, animating acidity. Citrus and floral tones continue clearly. A very elegant, balanced Australian Riesling, with mineral tension, fine texture and a long finish. This white wine from Australia is already good to drink now, but also has storage potential for 5 more years.

The sweetness and acidity of the Riesling go well with duck dishes, be it a roast duck with a fruity glaze or a classic duck à l’orange.
