Longview Yakka Shiraz – fresh, fruity and spicy

The grapes for the Longview Yakka Shiraz come from 5 different blocks (vineyard plots) from one of the winery’s rockiest vineyards. The manual harvest began on March 17, 2021, at dawn. The grapes were cooled overnight to preserve the fruit in the grapes. They were then crushed and destemmed in the winery before undergoing a long, cool fermentation in open vats. The proportion of whole berries was very high. The wine was then matured for 12 months in a mixture of new and used French oak barriques.

And this is what the Yakka Shiraz from Longview Vineyards tastes like

On the nose, the Longview Yakka Shiraz seduces with lush aromas of black cherries, cranberries and plums, accompanied by spicy notes of nutmeg and black pepper and slightly earthy tones. This Australian red wine is velvety on the palate with silky soft tannins, the acidity is present and well integrated. A characterful, varietal Shiraz with good structure, full of elegance and a long, fruity and spicy finish.

2021 Longview Yakka Shiraz

And that goes well with the Yakka Shiraz from Longview Vineyards

With its medium body, the Longview Yakka Shiraz goes well with a variety of dishes. Its strength certainly lies in the accompaniment of grilled meat. Due to its powerful character and pronounced aromas, this Australian Shiraz is a perfect complement to grilled meat. Whether juicy steaks, spicy burgers or tender ribs, the intense fruit aromas and spicy notes of the wine perfectly complement the flavors of the grilled meat. Try it with game dishes such as venison, deer or wild boar. The strong tannins and rich aromas of the wine are in harmony with the rich taste of game meat and complement it perfectly.

The smoky aromas of smoked foods such as smoked ham, smoked sausages or smoked trout harmonize well with the aromas of Longview Yakka Shiraz. The wine can enhance the smoky notes while offering a pleasant fruitiness. This Australian red wine is an excellent accompaniment to lamb dishes. The rich, spicy flavors of the wine pair well with the intense flavors of lamb. Whether it is braised lamb, grilled lamb chops or lamb curry, this wine provides a harmony of flavors. The variety of spices from international cuisine, especially from the Middle East or North Africa, goes well with the spicy notes of this Australian Shiraz. The spicy notes of the wine complement dishes with spices such as cumin, coriander, paprika or cinnamon. When it comes to cheese, Yakka Shiraz complements full-bodied and spicy hard cheeses such as Cheddar, Gouda or Manchego particularly well. The strong tannins of the wine harmonize with the texture and aromas of these cheeses.
