Canadian cuvée with rare grape variety: A must for experimental wine lovers

EastDell Wines is one of the lines of the Winery Diamond Estate from Canada. The wines all bear the “VQA Niagara Peninsula” seal. VQA stands for “Vintners Quality Alliance”, an appellation and regulation system for original Canadian wines that guarantees quality and authenticity. The vineyards are located directly on the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario. Surrounded by Niagara Falls, Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, the climate in summer is mild and therefore ideal for viticulture beyond ice wine. The grapes for this unmistakable cuvée were fermented individually according to grape variety and then matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. The cuvée consists of 55% Cabernet Franc, 35% Baco Noir and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Particularly interesting from a European point of view is the Baco Noir, a hybrid grape variety commonly used in North America. Since it is extremely frost-resistant, and the Canadian winters can become bitterly cold, the variety is widespread there.

And this is how the EastDell Wine’s Black Cab 2017 tastes

The EastDell Black Cab shows fruity aromas of sweet cherry, cassis, sour-fresh cranberry, accompanied by a fine vanilla note. On the palate you can taste dark plum, blackberry, currant and a hint of chocolate. The wine is fresh and soft, with a medium body and fine tannins as well as a refreshing acidity and has a pleasant finish. This makes it the perfect, unobtrusive food companion.
