2019 Blue Pyrenees Richardson Shiraz – An iconic Shiraz from Victoria with depth, power, and elegance

The 2019 Blue Pyrenees Richardson Shiraz comes from Blue Pyrenees Estate’s renowned Richardson series—produced only in exceptional vintages and named in honor of the legendary winemaker Colin Richardson. The wine comes from the estate’s most characterful Shiraz plots in the Pyrenees Mountains of Western Victoria. With 24 months of barrel aging (30% new French and American oak), this Shiraz is powerful, concentrated, and harmoniously matured—a true flagship of Australian red wine.

What makes the 2019 Blue Pyrenees Richardson Shiraz so special?

The 2019 vintage offered ideal conditions for the Shiraz grapes to reach full ripeness. Following a selective hand harvest and temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine aged for 24 months in barriques, 30% of which were new. The intense aromas and complexity of this wine make it an ideal candidate for the Richardson series. An international award winner—including a gold medal at Mundus Vini, a double gold at Gilbert & Gaillard, and 95 points in the Halliday Wine Companion—it ranks among Australia’s great red wines with excellent aging potential.

So, how does the 2019 Richardson Shiraz taste?

In the glass, the wine displays a deep purple-red color with a garnet-red rim. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe blueberries, licorice, black olive tapenade, five-spice, and cardamom—framed by subtle notes of vanilla and toast. On the palate, it is dense and smooth, with complex spice, balsamic depth, and elegantly integrated oak. The finish is long, silky, and mineral—an Australian Shiraz with character, depth, and structure.
