Versatile wines from South Africa. The historic town of Stellenbosch, which boasts some of the finest examples of Cape Dutch architecture, boasts a wine tradition that dates back to the late 17th century.
The mountainous terrain, good rainfall, deep, well-drained soils and diversity of terroirs make Stellenbosch a sought-after growing region for South African wines. More than 200 wineries, including some of South Africa’s best known, comprise this district. This interesting mix of historic and modern wineries produces excellent wines. The repertoire ranges from fine sparkling wines to light white and rosé wines, to strong red wines. The blended reds, i.e. cuvees made from red grape varieties, are particularly legendary.
