Mansion House Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir – Animating Pinot Noir from the South Island

The grapes for the Mansion House Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir come from vineyards in the Omaka and Awatere Valleys in Marlborough. The 2020 vintage was characterised by a classic growing season with plenty of sunshine and moderate temperatures in summer. The harvest, which took place between 19 March and 2 April, yielded almost perfectly ripe grapes. At the winery, the grapes were first destemmed and placed in various open fermentation tanks. A mixture of wild yeasts and pure yeasts was used for the fermentation of this New Zealand wine. After pressing, the wine was matured for around 10 months in predominantly used French barriques (only 7% new). After this time, the wine was transferred to stainless steel tanks, where it spent a further 2-3 months on the fine lees. The Pinot Noir was then blended and filtered. It was finally bottled on 26 May 2021.
