Mansion House Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir – Invigorating Pinot Noir from the South Island

The grapes for the Mansion House Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir come from vineyards in the Omaka and Awatere Valleys in Marlborough. The 2020 vintage was characterized by a classic growing season with plenty of sunshine and moderate summer temperatures. The harvest, which took place between March 19 and April 2, yielded almost perfectly ripe grapes. At the winery, the grapes were first destemmed and placed into various open fermentation tanks. A mixture of wild and cultured yeasts was used for the fermentation of this New Zealand wine. After pressing, the wine was aged for approximately 10 months in mostly used French barriques (only 7% new). After this time, the wine was transferred to stainless steel tanks, where it spent another 2-3 months on the fine lees. Following this, the Pinot Noir was blended and filtered. It was finally bottled on May 26, 2021.

And this is what the Mansion House Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir tastes like

The Mansion House Bay Marlborough Pinot Noir entices the nose with a delicate aroma of ripe strawberries, red cherries, blackcurrants, and blackberries, with hints of thyme, cedarwood, anise, and dark chocolate. Cherry and plum aromas continue impressively on the palate, accompanied by mineral notes. The texture of this New Zealand red wine is smooth, and the tannins are silky. The acidity is present and very well integrated. Overall, a very elegant, balanced, and full-bodied wine with a long finish and good ageing potential.
