Already in his youth a poem

While the other two Destiny Bay wines “Mystae” and “Magna Praemia” are more reminiscent of Medoc wines, the Destinae is more reminiscent of wines from the right “Bordeaux shore”, such as a Saint-Émilion. This is probably due to its slightly higher percentage of Merlot. Accessible from a young age, Destinae offers complex aromas of dark fruits and has the potential to ripen for a decade or more. The wine, according to renowned wine critics, is one of the best wines in New Zealand.

The 2018 Destinae consists of the following grape varieties: 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. The maturation of the wine lasted 10 months and took place 60% in French oak and 40% in American oak. The proportion of new barrique barrels was 35%. The used barriques were one year old. Before bottling, the wine was minimally filtered. Destiny Bay also relies on natural cork for this wine.

And this is how the Destinae from Destiny Bay Wines tastes

The Destinae of Destiny Bay seduces with floral and fruity notes at the same time. Wonderful multi-layered scent of blueberries, cassis and red berry fruit, with hints of white pepper and lavender, accompanied by fine roasted notes, some vanilla and a subtle hint of musk. On the palate typical Cabernet typicity with a lot of blue berry fruit, dense and well-balanced, with present, delicate acidity and still youthful, but quite supple tannin, the finish is impressively long and animating. A multifaceted, elegant wine that already shows the complexity and depth it will develop in the coming years.

2015 Destiny Bay Destinae

And that goes well with Destiny Bay Wines’ Destinae

The Destinae from Destiny Bay is a great companion to sausages, especially pies and terrines, to cold roast beef or wild pies. Simple grilled meat, such as steak, grilled and fried lamb, roast beef, veal and game. It is also excellent with steak pies, beef sliced, ox cheeks and other stews cooked in red wine. It also adapts very well to sausages with French fries and beans or lentil dishes. And it also cuts a fine figure with hard cheeses such as Comté, Gruyère, Allgäu mountain cheese or soft cheeses with white mould, such as a Brie de Meaux or a Camembert.
