‘Trucking’ Shiraz – uncomplicated Shiraz from Riverland

The ‘Trucking’ Shiraz from Lindsay Wine Estate is an animating red wine from the Lindsay Collection ‘TLC’. Like all the wines in this limited series, it is adorned with a label based on a work by Australian artist Sir Lionel Lindsay. The painter and graphic artist created the graphic ‘Trucking’ in 1932, which shows the strenuous pushing of a lorry on the rails. Work in the coal mines in Krakow, Queensland was extremely hard at the time.

The grapes for this Shiraz come from Riverland, South Australia. Most of the vines were planted ungrafted between 1990 and 2005. The Riverland has long warm sunny days and cool nights. The climate there is reminiscent of southern Italy. The long hours of sunshine ensure that the fruit ripens fully. The cool nights preserve the fine flavours and natural acidity. The 2021 vintage was harvested at night from the end of January to mid-April. Fortunately, the dry environment meant that rainfall was rare during the harvest. The result was healthy grapes of the best quality. Careful cultivation of the vineyards combined with a cooler period resulted in red wines that reflect the unique character and potential of the region.

And this is how the ‘Trucking’ Shiraz tastes

The ‘Trucking’ Shiraz from Lindsay Wine Estate, Riverland, South Australia seduces with a tantalising bouquet of ripe blackberries and dark cherries, accompanied by subtle hints of black pepper and oriental spices. On the palate, this Australian red wine is rich and full-bodied with velvety tannins and well-integrated acidity. Flavours of black fruits such as plums and blackcurrants are complemented by notes of chocolate and a hint of vanilla. The wine offers a long and animating finish with a lingering intensity of spice and fruit. Overall, the 2021 Riverland Shiraz ‘Trucking’ is a powerful and robust wine characterised by its dark fruit profile, soft tannins and complexity.
