Maxwell Little Demon GSM – The little demon in a glass

Maxwell’s Little Demon Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro is the perfect blend of three Mediterranean grape varieties: 69% Grenache, 26% Shiraz and 5% Mourvèdre (often called Mataro). This style goes back centuries to the time of the French Popes of Avignon & Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but is fresh & modern with bright berry fruit, subtle spice and plenty of complexity despite its easy-drinking nature. The wine was matured for 12 – 15 months in used barriques made from American and French oak. The unusual name goes back to a physics experiment. In 1871, Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell proposed a thought experiment involving a hypothetical creature that acts as a gatekeeper between two chambers to sort gas molecules according to their velocity. At first glance, such a system could potentially generate energy out of nothing… theoretically impossible given the laws of physics. This hypothetical gatekeeper became known among physicists as Maxwell’s little demon and has been a source of debate in the scientific community for more than a century.

And this is how the Little Demon G.S.M. from Maxwell Wines tastes

Intense red berry flavours with stewed plums and herbal notes emerge from the Little Demon Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro glass. On the palate, this cuvée is full-bodied and profound, with velvety tannins and fine acidity, the plum flavour continues in the mouth, accompanied by an animating gamey note and white pepper spice, a penetrating wine, elegant and with a long finish.

And that goes well with the Little Demon GSM from Maxwell Wines

The Maxwell Little Demon GSM is known for its rich and complex flavours. The robust and fruity nature of this Australian red wine makes it a great companion for grilled meats. Whether it’s steak, lamb, pork or even burgers, the wine’s flavours and acidity can complement the spicy and smoky notes of grilled dishes.

Maxwell Little Demon GSM also pairs well with roasted or braised meats such as roast chicken, duck, beef stew or pot roast. The structure and spiciness of the wine can enhance the flavours of these dishes.

The Mediterranean flavours of dishes such as ratatouille, lamb tagine or moussaka harmonise with the vegetal and spicy notes of Maxwell Little Demon. The acidity and fruitiness of the wine cut through the richness of the Mediterranean dishes.

This wine from Australia harmonises perfectly with pasta dishes with tomato sauces, whether it’s classic spaghetti with meatballs or a rich lasagne. The acidity of the Maxwell Little Demon GSM goes well with the acidity of the tomatoes.
