A true multi-district blend

The grape material for the Claymore Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz comes largely from the estate’s own vineyards in the regions of Watervale and Penwortham. This was supplemented by grapes from the cooler neighboring regions of Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. These give the wine more structure and a natural acidity. Clare Valley’s own sites are largely farmed without additional irrigation, which demanded a lot from the vines in the dry year 2020. As a consequence, only a small yield was harvested. The resulting cross-regional blend (multi-district blend) is powerful yet elegant, with clear primary fruit character and well-integrated tannins.

And this is how the Claymore Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz tastes

The Claymore Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz seduces with dark berries. Nuances of mulberries, blackberries and black plum appear, accompanied by white pepper and warm spicy aromas from the use of barrique. Aromas of tobacco, licorice, eucalyptus and dark chocolate flow from the glass. On the palate, the wine is very expressive with a powerful body. It has an extremely appealing acidity and tannin structure that give it depth and longevity. The Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz has the potential to develop positively and gain complexity for at least another 10 years.

And to match the Claymore Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz

Claymore Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz is a versatile food companion. The peppery elements typical of the grape variety harmonize very well with spicy meat dishes or comparable Asian dishes. Its warm spicy notes makes it a perfect BBQ wine. Whether short-rib steaks or a braised lamb stew, this Shiraz is the right partner.
