Pillitteri greets Valpolicella: here many amarone pales with envy
The Riserva Famiglia Appassimento Corvina is one of the rarest red wines in Canada. A real rarity, made from the typical Valpolicella grape varieties Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, made in the classic Amarone style. 2016 was a warm, dry vintage with lots of sunshine and therefore ideally suited for the production of the Appassimento style. The title “Riserva Famiglia” is awarded only to wines from the best vintages that have passed a strict tasting by a tasting commission. Made in the traditional Appassimento style, the grapes were first left on the vine to dry for 4 weeks after the regular harvest date, before they were then dried on special racks by air circulation for 26 days. The wine was aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels.
And this is how the Riserva Famiglia Appassimento Corvina by Pillitteri tastes
The Pillitteri Riserva Famiglia Corvina Appassimento is a very complex wine with distinct ripening and a lot of body, but still retains its primary fruity aromas. A multi-layered scent of figs, ripe, red plums, dried violets, earth, tobacco leaves, kirsch and preserved red fruits literally explodes from the glass. As soon as the wine opens a bit in the air, sweet barrique ripening notes of vanilla, nutmeg, smoke, caramel, cloves and cigar boxes are added. The aromas are reflected on the palate, with notes of chocolate, black pepper, sour cherries and toast added. The pleasant fruit sweetness, which comes from the extreme maturity of the wines, leads to a very velvety and soft texture of the wine. The tannin is still youthful, and although it is already round, further bottle maturation will improve the quality. The extremely long finish ideally rounds off this profound, opulent and complex wine. A great wine, a matter of the heart for the whole family.
