Mystae – from New Zealand’s top league

The “Mystae” were ancient Greek philosophers who sought a deeper understanding of the mysteries of the universe and paid homage to the Greek god of wine, Dionysus.

The great wine shines with a perfect balance between the power of Cabernet and the fruit facets of Merlot and the other three Bordeaux grape varieties. The 2015 vintage has the following grape variety mix: 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot. The ageing of the wine took 10 months and took place 60% in French oak and 40% in American oak. The proportion of new barrique barrels was 40%. Before bottling, the wine was minimally filtered. Destiny Bay swears by the use of natural cork in all its wines, including the Mystae, which has a storage potential of over 15 years. The wine, according to renowned wine critics, is one of the best wines in New Zealand.

And this is how the Mystae from Destiny Bay Wines tastes

The Mystae has an intense color with violet and blue reflections. It beguiles with its dominant Cabernet aroma profile, blackberries, cassis and cranberries, accompanied by subtle roasted notes, chocolate, tobacco, liquorice and fresh bread crust. Hints of pepper and slightly earthy-leathery tones. On the palate dense and full-bodied, with present, supple tannin the finest fruit extract, shows skilful wood use and very good balance, a complex, elegant and characterful wine with a remarkably long finish and good maturation potential.

2015 Destiny Bay Mystae

And that fits with the Mystae of Destiny Bay Wines

The Mystae from Destiny Bay is the ideal accompaniment to fried or grilled meat. Beef, lamb and especially game are in good hands with him. And it also cuts a fine figure with hard cheeses such as Comté, Gruyère, Allgäu mountain cheese or a Brie de Meaux. We appreciate it very much with an entrecôte with sage potatoes and grilled vegetables.

"A deep, but brilliant, purple and ruby colour with blue highlights. The aroma is vibrant, forward and youthful with blackberry, pure raspberry and tobacco undertones. Supple tannins with integrated quality oak gives this wine both complexity and lovely palate length. The finish shows elegance and hidden power. The dry conditions and fastidious winemaking practices by the team at Destiny Bay have made this a well-crafted wine with great definition." -Bob Campbell, 95/100 points
