Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo – The Saturnos’ reminiscence of Italy’s greatest grape variety

Nebbiolo, the “king of grape varieties” in Italy, has long been a passion of Longview. The Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo is only bottled when it is in no way inferior to the original from Piedmont. The Saturnos never rest on their laurels. The vines are 25 years old. The grapes are selected from two of four different Nebbiolo blocks from the Adelaide Hills. The fragrance of the grapes plays a central role. The manual harvest takes place during the coolest part of the day. After the harvest, the grapes are meticulously selected in order to meet the high quality standards. Vinification is traditional, with the juice remaining on the skins for around 4 weeks during fermentation. The wine is then matured in 2,500 liter oak barrels and 6 year old oak barrels (puncheons) of around 318 liters. The finished wine is then bottled without further fining or filtration.

Taste Unveiled: Exploring the Flavor Profile of Saturnus Nebbiolo from Longview Vineyards

The Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo seduces with its very varietal, animating aroma of maraschino cherries, red berries, musk and warm spices such as star anise. These are joined by slightly smoky, dried herbs. On the palate, this Australian red wine is extraordinarily complex, juicy and powerful, with various berry and cherry flavors. The acidity is delicate and invigorating, the tannin very fine-grained. A real character, elegant, with a long, remarkable finish.

Perfect Pairings: Unveiling Culinary Companions for the Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo

The Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo goes wonderfully with braised or roasted meat. The tannins and acidity of the Nebbiolo grape variety go well with richer and fattier meats. Dishes such as osso buco, braised lamb shanks, roast duck or beef goulash complement the structure of this Australian wine and can handle its tannins well. The earthy and sometimes truffle-like flavors of Nebbiolo wine pair well with pasta dishes with truffle oil or shaved truffle. Try a simple pasta with truffle cream sauce or truffle risotto. This Nebbiolo from Australia also pairs well with mature cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, Pecorino or Gouda. The combination of tannins and acidity can balance the richness of the cheese. The earthy and woody notes of Longview Nebbiolo go wonderfully with dishes with wild mushrooms. A mushroom risotto, for example, is a good choice.

The bold and complex flavors of game meats, such as venison or wild boar, can complement the structure and character of Nebbiolo. Consider dishes such as grilled or roasted game meat. If you prefer a vegetarian option, grilled vegetables, especially with a little smoke and charcoal, go well with Nebbiolo. The acidity of the Australian red wine can cut through the flavors of the grilled food and its earthy notes can complement the vegetables. Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo pairs well with Italian tomato-based dishes, such as pasta with tomato sauce or pizza with tomato and mushroom toppings. The acidity of the wine can harmonize with the acidity of the tomatoes. Whether it’s a hearty sausage and bean stew or a simple platter of grilled sausages, this wine from Australia can handle the flavors and richness of sausage dishes.
